AFL Recap – Panorama Week 7

This week was a round that was more than footy as the Big Freeze 11 campaign launched at the MCG raising awareness for MND.

The round started with a 22 point win for the Hawks over the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium. The Hawks recent run of bad form was turned around with the brown and gold holding a consistent lead throughout the match. It was a big day for ruckmans with both Tim English and Lloyd Meek making marks on the stats sheet with the latter recording 48 hitouts for the match. Also for the Hawks Mabior Chol had what has been described as one of his best games for the brown and gold with 4 goals all crucial to the win.

On Friday the Adelaide Crows saw a 5 point win over reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Oval. In what was a come from behind victory for the Crows it was the final quarter act of Crows skipper Jordan Dawson who put Adelaide on the front for the first time since the 20 minute mark of the first quarter. Following goals from Josh Rachele and Ben Keys sealed the deal for the Crows who now sit in good confidence and 3rd on the ladder.

The week followed with wins for the Sydney Swans, North Melbourne and Carlton before the main match of the round in which the Melbourne Demons and Collingwood faced off at the G to launch Big Freeze 11. Big Freeze sliders this year included cyclist Cadel Evans and Arianne Titmus all dressed as Aussie icons before taking to the ice cold slide.

The match that followed was hard fought and resulted in a nail-biting 1 point win for the Pies, in which Daniel McStay kicked the sealer. The game also saw heated contest between teammates Max Gawn and Steven May who exchanged words after a mis-kick from the captain that had the opportunity to win back the game went askew.

Big Freeze 11 highlights much needed fundraising for Motor NeuroneDisease which is still in need of a cure. For more information visit fightmnd.org.au
