Melbourne faces second machete related incident in city’s North – Panorama Week 7

Melbourne has faced its second machete related incident just weeks after a shopping centre in the city’s North was placed under lockdown.

Last Friday the 6th of June CS Square in Caroline Springs was placed under lockdown as an incident occurred between multiple men who were armed with knives.

The incident reported no injuries with security alongside police acting quickly according to multiple witnesses.

After a pre organised event between rival gangs in Northland shopping centre just 12 days prior to the incident in CS Square, the Victorian enacted an immediate ban on the sale of machete knives on the 28th of May.

This ban however does not impact those in the possession of a machete knife until an ownership ban comes into effect in September 2025. Those in possession are encouraged to surrender their weapons at safe deposits around the state.

Due to these violent incidents rising in prominence before the ban, Victorian Police have expressed their plan to “expand knife search powers,” which will see “thousands of weapons seized.” a spokesperson told the ABC.

The community advised to report any instances of violence involving machete knives to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
