AFL Recap – Panorama Week 8

This week in the AFL opened with a huge statement from the Western Bulldogs with a 72 point win over the Saints. After Footscray faced a loss last week to the Hawks they bounced back with the return of Sam Darcy proving vital to the side as the tall forward kicked 3 goals for the game. Bailey Dale was also a standout for the Dogs, collecting 36 disposals alongside Bailey Williams who picked up 27 disposals at 81% efficiency.

Friday night saw an underwhelming matchup in what was expected to be a big blockbuster between finals contenders in the Hawks and the Crows with the Hawks claiming a 3 point win in a final quarter tussle for the lead coming down to goal for goal. Defender Jarman Impey had a massive game for the brown and gold collecting 28 disposals while crucial goals came from Connor Macdonald and Jai Newcombe in the last half.

Saturday saw some big wins, namely for the Cats who claimed a 95 point win over the Bombers at the G. A 7 goal final quarter sealed the deal for Geelong with forward Jeremy Cameron kicking 6 for the game and Bailey Smith raking in 42 disposals for the match.

The week closed with 2 matches on Sunday in which Port Adelaide took the win over the Dees at Adelaide Oval and Carlton beat the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadiums as the latter head into the bye 1-13 at the bottom of the ladder.

Looking to the week ahead the Eagles, Hawks, Crows and Demons all enjoy a bye while a big matchup between Geelong and Brisbane takes place on Friday night at GMHBA Stadium. Taking inspiration from American football culture the stadium is set to participate in a ‘white out’ in which the Cats will give out 40,000 free white t-shirts around the stadium to create a vibrant atmosphere.
