AFL Recap – Panorama Week 9

This week in the AFL saw a cursed whiteout on Friday night with Geelong’s much anticipated clash with the Brisbane Lions leading to a 41 point loss for the home side.

Despite GMHBA being decked out in 40,000 white t-shirts to mimic American college football culture the intimidation did not work on the Lions who from the jump displayed class and high footy IQ. From Brisbane Dayne Zorko and Josh Dunkly combined for 63 disposals while young gun Logan Morris bagged 5 for the night.

Saturday then opened with a shock upset as North Melbourne got their Good Friday revenge over the Blues with a tight 11 point win at the G. A 6 goal second quarter kickstarted the Kangas run home with North star Tom Powell having a standout game collecting 34 disposals for the match.

There was another upset on Saturday afternoon with Sydney taking the win over Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. A notoriously hard trip the Swans claimed a 19 point win despite some inaccurate kicking, finishing the game with 9 goals and 17 behinds. Isaac Heeney has a solid game for the Swans, with 28 disposals and 2 goals.
The round ended with a dominant 79 point win for the Western Bulldogs over Richmond, demonstrating the Dogs consistent form over teams below the 8. Marcus Bontempelli captained the side to the win with ‘the Bont’ collecting 36 disposals and 3 goals for the game.
